Devi – All That I Need Music Video
Our first music video! Shot at my downtown Jersey City apartment and Keith's bar, Boca Grande, in one long-ass day. I blame the dress. Featuring: Debra Devi (guitar/vocals), John Hummel (drums), Keith Mannino (bass), Rob Clores (keys). Dir. Jill Morley, DP Evan Seplow, Asst Dir. Jason Jaworski
Devi Song on Unlikely Stories Compilation
Our poetic pals at Unlikely 2.0, the web-magazine of art and culture, are changing the definition of a literary anthology. Unlikely Stories of the Third Kind includes not only prose and poetry but also videos, music, visual art– and the DEVI song When It Comes Down. Some other cool bands are in the mix, too, like steampunk vagrants The Clockwork Dolls.
The anthology is 400 pages of essays, poetry, prose, and visual art in color and black-and-white, sandwiched between a CD attached to the front cover and a DVD attached to the back. Click here for a full list of all artists involved and to pre-order.
I’ll be playing a few songs acoustically at the release party Nov 21 at Bowery Poetry Club in NYC. Check our show schedule for deets.
Solos Galore!
Despite video evidence above to the contrary, I do play a lot of lead on our Get Free album, and I usually wear a bra. In fact, “All That I Need” is the only song on the album without a guitar solo.
Here are a few of the guitar solos on Get Free, for my fellow guitar freaks:
When It Comes Down (at 3:15) – free download
C21H23NO3 (at 3:10) – free download
Love That Lasts (at 2:15)
The Needle and the Damage Done (at 2:30)
We are shooting some video for these songs soon, stay tuned!
Montana Rules
I’m a self-taught guitarist. I’ve only had a few lessons and I’ve never been to a workshop before. So when I was invited to the Crown of the Continent Guitar Workshop to learn from Pat Metheny, Lee Ritenour, Alex De Grassi and Scott Tennant at a dude ranch in the Rocky Mountains, I had to go!
I was initially invited to the festival to write about it, but I wound up on the faculty, teaching private lessons and two workshops ( alternate tunings and vibrato) and performing in the finale.

Debra Devi on Fender Girl Rock Nation
It’s official, I’m endorsing Fender! Check out my artist profile on Fender’s Girl Rock Nation website! I’m so excited! The goal of Girl Rock Nation is to motivate and inspire young women to pick up a guitar and play. It’s a Girl Rock Nation Revolution; I can get with that!
As a Strat fanatic, I’m very proud to help Fender reach out to women like this. We are your market, too, guitar and amp companies!! Enough already with the ads showing women straddling guitars; show us PLAYING them and we might buy them!!
Devi to Play ‘Last Band Standing’
We’re psyched to have been added as one of eight bands competing for the title of Last Band Standing at Parlay Studios in downtown Jersey City this Sunday from 2 pm to 6 pm. Normally, the phrase “battle of the bands” would send me running for the hills, since we don’t play any Van Halen, but this one’s different, I swear.
First, it’s for a great cause — to raise money for the JC 4th Street Arts & Music Festival. Second, the other bands are hella cool (Easter Vomit, In Musth, Plastiq Passion, Shayfer James, Los Huevos and Prison Pretty). And third, there will be food. Food! Five bucks to watch eight bands duke it out, hang with hipsters and eat.
The judges are pretty cool, too – our fave DJ, Lindsay Klein from WHDA-FM, music manager Eddie Applebaum (Morningwood, Earl Greyhound) The Needle Drop blogger Anthony Fantano and Pistol Pete Kaufmann from RockinLifestyle. Come root for us!!
