How to Play “Get Free” or No More Squirrelly Vibrato

I’m pretty much a self-taught guitarist (Here’s a great resource if you’re trying to learn guitar). I learned by playing in punk bands and asking guitarists in other bands to show me stuff between soundcheck and the show. If it weren’t for a lot of guys with a lot of patience, I’d still be struggling to play “Sonic Reducer”!! I finally took some lessons–and they improved my playing considerably. Allen Schwarz is a great teacher and top session guy in NYC. First thing he said to me was “Your vibrato is squirrelly!” By that, he meant it was weak and all over the place. He showed me the vibrato-building exercise in this video (at 4:00) It’s simple, but it changed my lead playing forever. Give it a try.
